When a video shows employees having a party days after the tragedy, Air India’s baggage handling firm issues an apology.
Has been sparked by a widely shared video of senior executives from Air India’s partner company dancing at a staff party. The festivities were held just days after the catastrophic crash of Air India flight AI171 in Ahmedabad on June 12. In a statement, Air India SATS said that the widely shared video of a senior official having a party with other employees less than ten days after the deadly airline disaster was “totally out of context.” Air India Limited, a member of the Tata Group, and SATS Ltd, a Singaporean corporation that was formerly known as Singapore Airport Terminal Services, have partnered to become Air India SATS (AISATS). The collaboration specializes in offering baggage handling and other airport services throughout Indian airports. During a party at the company’s Gurugram office on June 20, Abraham Zachariah, chief operating officer of Air India SATS (AISATS), is seen dancing with other employees while loud music plays in the video. “At AISATS, we stand in solidarity with the families touched by the sad loss of AI 171 and truly regret the lack in judgment depicted in a recent internal video,” an AISATS spokeswoman told The Independent in a statement. As we reinforce our dedication to empathy, professionalism, and accountability, we have taken strong disciplinary action against those involved for the behavior, which is inconsistent with our principles.
